Welcome
Extended family photos are one of the most meaningful ways to document your family story. These sessions bring together grandparents, parents, adult children, little ones, cousins, and everyone in between.
In a single afternoon, you are able to capture the people who shaped you, the people you are raising, and the people who will carry your family legacy forward. It is truly something special.
If you have ever wanted to gather everyone together for photos, or you are wondering what a session like this includes, here is a simple guide to help you understand what extended family photos are and why they matter so much.

Extended family photos are multi-generational portraits that include the entire family. This usually means grandparents, their adult children and spouses, and all of the grandchildren together in one session. Some families also bring in great grandparents, aunts, uncles, or special family members who are part of the story.
The goal of extended family photos is to capture:
It is a wonderful way to document the people who mean the most to you and the relationships that define your family.

Extended family photos are more than a large group picture. They are a way to honor the people who built your family and to preserve memories that will matter for generations.
Here are a few reasons these sessions are so important.
It is rare to have everyone in the same place at the same time. Life gets busy, kids grow quickly, and schedules do not always align. Extended family photos create a moment where everyone can pause and be together. These photos become a visual reminder of how much love surrounds your family.
There is something incredibly meaningful about photographing grandparents with their grandchildren. These images hold so much history and tenderness. For the youngest family members, these photos become a way to remember the people who poured love into their lives from the very beginning.
These photos show the story of where your family has been and where it is going. They celebrate the legacy your parents and grandparents built. They also highlight the new chapters being written by each family unit. These photos become treasures your family will return to over and over again.
One of the best parts of these sessions is that every family receives their own portraits as well. After we capture the full group and the generational groupings, we spend time photographing each individual household so parents get updated photos with their own families as well.
It is easy to tell yourself that there will be time later or that you can schedule photos next year. The truth is that these seasons move quickly. Babies grow into toddlers, grandparents get older, and family dynamics change. Extended family photos give you a way to freeze this season exactly as it is right now.

These sessions are relaxed, organized, and designed to feel natural. When working with large groups, I guide gently and keep things moving so the session stays enjoyable for everyone. Kids can take breaks, grandparents can rest, and families can step in and out as we rotate through the groupings.
We start with the largest group photo while everyone is fresh. Then we move into grandparents with grandkids, siblings, cousins, and each individual family unit. Your gallery will reflect every important relationship in your family.
My goal is always to make the experience easy, joyful, and meaningful for the entire group.

There is never a perfect time. Someone will always be growing a new tooth, heading into a new season, or juggling a busy schedule. The beauty of extended family photos is that they capture your family as it truly is right now.
Extended family photos are not just a picture. They are a gift to your children, your parents, and your future selves. The imperfections become memories. The laughter becomes something you look back on with joy. Years from now, you will be grateful you paused to document these people you love so much.
